Best Hotels in Antigua

Tamarind Hills

£££

Ffryes Beach

Tamarind Hills

I’ll cut to the chase and start out with my top pick for hotels in Antigua: Tamarind Hills.

Located on not one, but two stunning beaches, Tamarind Hills is a perfect retreat and where I stayed on a recent trip to Antigua. Nestled between the famous Ffryes Beach and the equally impressive Darkwood Beach, this hotel is in a league of its own.

Why? Let’s start with the outdoor space. Walk around the property, and you’ll see that there are charming spots to chill out in or out of the Caribbean sunshine nearly everywhere. Suites and villas are perched on the hillside with stunning views of the beach.

Speaking of the villas, this is where the celebration of nature, sunsets, and clear blue skies continues. Each contemporary accommodation boasts a private balcony – some with jacuzzis tubs and others with private plunge pools – and comfy four poster beds. Yes, it’s a little slice of paradise.

Top it all off with one of the better hotel restaurants I’ve ever tried (Wild Tamarind Restaurant), and you have all the makings for a perfect holiday in Antigua.

Cocobay Resort

££

Ffryes Bay

Cocobay Resort

Trying to get away from it all at one of the top hotels in Antigua? Here’s another great choice. Cocobay Resort is a four-star property overlooking the idyllic Ffryes Bay that is peaceful, romantic and drum roll… adults-only.

So what makes this a great choice for couples (or solo travellers) trying to escape to the Caribbean sea for a few days or longer? To start, you’ll have private beach access with ample opportunities to kayak, snorkel or simply lay out and catch a tan.

Each cottage has a private balcony with hammocks and loungers – and stunning ocean views around you. Not bad, right?

Choose from two restaurants on site where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner included in the price of your stay, and you have all the making for a romantic getaway.

Blue Waters Resort & Spa

£££

Soldier’s Bay

Blue Waters Resort and Spa

You know you’re off to an incredible start when you book a hotel on its own private cove. Blue Waters Resort and Spa features over 80 rooms and suites on an impressive 17 acres of seaside real estate all its own.

Rooms are ideal for couples who want a romantic beach holiday, and there are enough bars and restaurants on-site to keep the vacation fresh even during longer trips.

You can reserve breakfast only or opt for an all-inclusive package when you book your stay. Decide what makes the most sense for you, but keep in mind there are some delicious choices around the island if you want more variety.

Hodges Bay Resort & Spa

££

Saint John’s

Hodges Bay Resort & Spa

Hodges Bay Resort & Spa is located in the capital city of Saint John’s, but you’re pretty sheltered from the hustle and bustle from your poolside, garden or ocean view room.

The accommodations are rather spacious, with king-sized beds, walk-in showers and plenty of Antiguan sunshine seeping in from the sliding glass doors.  You get free breakfast when you book a stay, so be sure to fill up on the buffet before heading to the private beach or pools.

Jumby Bay Island – an Oetker Collection Hotel

£££

Saint John’s

Jumby Bay Island

When I think of opulent luxury hotels in Antigua, Jumby Bay Island is one of the first names that comes up. Outdoor showers, bright and spacious rooms and lush surroundings are some of the many reasons to stay here.

But this isn’t the type of hotel you book on a whim. The exclusive resort on a private island can set you back a pretty penny.

But, if you’re looking for pristine white sand beaches, world-class service and outdoor activities abound, you’ll want to consider treating yourself to a few nights at one of the best hotels Antigua offers.

Weatherills Hotel

£

Cedar Grove

Weatherills Hotel

On the other end of the price spectrum is Weatherills Hotel. For guests less concerned about extravagant decor and beachside luxury, Weatherills Hotel is a hidden gem.

Why? Four poster beds, lofted ceilings and blue and white tiled bathrooms provide a comfortable, romantic ambiance that’s great for a budget-minded honeymoon (or regular stay).

The location in Cedar Grove is quiet and idyllic, and the complimentary continental breakfast is a nice perk for your affordable stay in Antigua.

The Inn at English Harbour

£££

English Harbour

The Inn at English Harbour

Looking for 5-star hotels in Antigua? The Inn at English Harbour is located in the heart of the historic English Harbour and perfectly balances the colonial history with modern touches that make the rooms feel youthful yet refined.

You’re perched on the fringes of Deep Bay Beach, so there’s plenty to see and do. Though, you always just have a flop-and-drop session on the sand instead.

Make time to have a meal at Terrace Restaurant, where you can gaze out at the yacht-filled harbour while sampling some creative Caribbean fusion cuisine. Sounds like paradise, right?

Royalton Hotel & Spa Antigua

££

Deep Bay

Royalton Hotel & Spa Antigua

I also stayed at the Royalton Hotel & Spa Antigua during my trip and to be honest, I expected a little more from the basic rooms, considering the hotel’s five-star rating. Though, to be frank, I think I was spoiled by staying at Tamarind Hills.

That said, if you want to get some R&R on a nice little section of the beach, enjoy plenty of dining options (be sure to reserve a spot at the steak house), and access a pretty decent spa – this is one of the more reasonably priced all-inclusive hotels in Antigua.

Curtain Bluff

£££

Carlisle Bay

Curtain Bluff

Curtain Bluff is one of the best Antigua hotels on the beach. Why? For starters, you’ll have limitless outdoor activities like cruising on a Hobie Cat or snorkelling at Cade’s Reef built into your booking.

There’s also waterskiing, windsurfing and kayaking all waiting for you, making this the accommodation in Antigua for outdoor adventurers.

Pack your swimsuit, sun cream and massage gun to soothe those aching muscles – you may need a vacation from your vacation after this one.

Hammock Cove Resort & Spa

£££

Willikies

Hammock Cove Antigua

Hammock Cove Resort & Spa is about as close to Devil’s Bridge National Park as you can get, with views of the iconic natural bridge from one of the top Antigua 5-star hotels.

You’ll also enjoy Michelin-star dining at Lighthouse Restaurant, where they serve sustainable local seafood in an unstuffy Georgian dining hall that feels modern and lively.

Choose between standard rooms or waterfront villas where you’ll enjoy over 90 sq m (1,000 sq ft) of space with a private pool overlooking the azure tropical waters around you.

Trust me. This one is worth a second look.

COCOS Hotel (Antigua)

£££

St. John’s

Cocos Hotel Antigua

Antigua and Barbuda hotels often have a subtle Caribbean style that allures you with every small detail. Though COCOS Hotel (Antigua) goes a step further. It kind of hits you over the head with tropical charm in the stunning seaside cottages.

How? Outdoor showers, hammocks and palm-tree-lined gardens right outside your private villa announce loud and clear that you’re staying in an exotic paradise.

Siboney Beach Club

££

Dickenson Bay

Siboney Beach Club

Looking for Antigua Beach hotels with character and style at a reasonable price? Siboney Beach Club provides affordable rooms with private balconies steps away from the charming Dickenson Bay for less than you may guess.

You’ll have access to snorkelling on-site and are a short walk from Marina Bay and Runaway Bay, where you can spend plenty of time in the sun. Be sure to try some fresh local seafood for dinner at Salt Page when you’re finished with your outdoor activities for the day.

In all, it’s a great choice for solo travellers and couples who want to find Antigua beach resorts full of oceanfront charm.

Copper and Lumber Store Hotel

££

English Harbour Town

Copper and Lumber Store Hotel

Staying at the Copper and Lumber Store Hotel is a great way to immerse yourself in a historic setting in Nelson’s Dockyard.

One of the top hotels in Antigua for history buffs, the 14 rooms are housed in a quaint boutique building built by the British Navy in the 18th Century. The colonial influence shows up with antique furniture, dark hardwood floors and brick-walled interiors that feel surprisingly modern and elegant.

Head down to the restaurant for Seafood Fridays and enjoy seafood roti, saltfish fritters and other island flavours. Yum.

Keyonna Beach Resort

£££

Turner’s Beach

Keyonna Beach Resort Antigua

Looking for the best boutique hotels Antigua offers right on the beach? Look no further than Keyonna Beach Resort, the all-inclusive property on Turner’s Beach in Picarts Bay.

For couples looking for adults-only luxury hotels in Antigua, you’ve found a gem here. The 29 cottages have beachside views, private plunge pools and outdoor showers to wash off the saltwater from the nearby beach “10 seconds away”. Quite literally.

All-inclusive packages include daily meals, premium liquor, private patios and exclusive beach beds – making it one of the best hotels in Antigua, all things considered.

The Admiral’s Inn

££

English Harbour Town

Admiral's Inn and Gunpowder Suites

Keen to stay near the historical port of Nelson’s Dockyard? The Admiral’s Inn will have you smack in the middle of the storied harbour, and the 18th-century villas very much tap into the colonial past through the decor, setting and accommodations.

Enjoy a meal at Pillars Restaurant outdoors and enjoy the harbour breeze while tasting some freshly caught seafood before returning to your cosy suite overlooking the dockyard below.

The Escape at Nonsuch Bay Resort

££

Hughes Point

Nonsuch Bay Antigua

Finding all-inclusive hotels in Antigua doesn’t take much effort, but discovering affordable options that defy expectations takes a bit more patience and persistence. I’ve got you covered.

The Escape at Nonsuch Bay Resort is one of those rare finds that combines luxury accommodations with affordable prices, making it one of the best hotels in Antigua for the price. For starters, suites include private pools on a garden terrace where you can start or end your day in style.

The location high up on the hill provides perfect views of Nonsuch Bay from the outdoor pool, bar and restaurant. Hungry? Have dinner at Drift Restaurant & Bar to try fresh Caribbean flavours while overlooking the water below.

It doesn’t get much better than this.

Carlisle Bay

£££

Carlisle Bay Beach

Carlisle Bay

Another of the best luxe hotels in Antigua, Carlisle Bay offers roomy suites with soft, tropical colour pallets and hand-crafted artwork showcasing contemporary design inspired by the island scenery outside.

The private white sand beach is ideal for long days lounging and looking out at the shimmering seaside vistas or diving into activities like paddle boarding, windsurfing and even raft building.

Want to tap into your health and wellness on your Caribbean retreat? You can arrange a one-on-one retreat with a trained yoga instructor and vegan chef.

For travellers more inclined to indulge (my hand is very firmly in the air), Indigo on the Beach and the Jetty Grill serve up island flavours and cocktails you can enjoy while overlooking the gorgeous Carlisle Bay.

However you plan to spend your vacation, you can’t go wrong with this luxury hotel in Antigua.
